Hi everyone,
I am often asked by students for book recommendations, so I want to re-start our blog by recommending one of Dan Docherty’s books–with the further recommendation that as a Tai Chi practitioner or a martial artist of any kind you’d probably do well to read any, or better yet all, of his books and writings. I won’t go into Mr. Docherty’s background, but if you do you’ll enjoy it because it’s an interesting story. He’s an unapologetic character, and I’m not saying I agree with everything he says, but he’s unusually entertaining, knowledgeable, and insightful.
Suffice to say he’s a fighter, a scholar, a teacher of health and healing, and a gentleman (though from what I know of him I suspect he may dispute that last accusation). He has a very pragmatic, sometimes viewed as an iconoclastic approach to all aspects of Tai Chi Chuan. He also recently had an excellent podcast interview and I’ll include a link for that as well as a link to his web page. Enjoy!
