The Importance of Daily Practice
“Tai Chi Chuan is the art of concealing hardness within softness, like a needle in cotton. Its technique, physiology and mechanics all involve considerable philosophical principles, therefore students of this art must pass through definite stages of development over a long period of time. Although the guidance of a superior teacher and practice with fellow students is indispensable, the most important thing is one’s own daily practice. One can discuss or dream a great deal, but when one day we are called upon to test our art, we will have nothing to show, for without daily disciple we will remain outsiders. This is why the ancients said, ‘Thought alone is without profit, it is much better to study.’ If one practices faithfully morning and evening, winter and summer and keeping the form always fresh, then regardless of age or [gender] success is assured.
