How would you like to get paid to practice Tai Chi? In a way, you already do since there are many benefits associated with regular practice: robust health, a calm and focused mind, and a better understanding of body mechanics, to name a few.

One Columbia Tai Chi Center student (who has asked to remain anonymous) has found a way to make it pay literally by starting a “Tai Chi” jar. A pre-determined monetary sum is placed in the jar each day if they practice.

At the end of each month this student decides how the proceeds will be spent to further their practice of Tai Chi. Some expenditures are for small indulgences like a massage, or the purchase of an extra uniform; and now there is never a shortage of funds for workshops, seminars, potluck preparations, or Hong Bao (red envelope) contributions. The best part is that it helps promote regular practice — nearly every day!
