A Moment in Tai Chi History
During an historic International Tai Chi Symposium (July 2009) at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, World Tai Chi and Qigong Day founders, Bill Douglas and Angela Wong Douglas, met with the world’s foremost authorities on the five traditional Chinese Family Schools of Tai Chi Chuan. All five grandmasters of the Chen, Yang, Wu, Wu Hao, and Sun styles of Tai Chi (Chen Zhenglei, Yang Zhenduo, Wu Wenhan, Ma Hailong, and Sun Yongtian) agreed that all styles of Tai Chi offer the same benefits when done correctly, thereby once and for all ending any need for conflicts or arguments between Tai Chi players of various styles.
The symposium was focused on bringing together the wisdom of Chinese culture with the precision of modern science through evidence-based academic sessions, Masters’ workshops and other special events designed to foster an exchange of knowledge and cultures. The symposium was the first of its kind in the United States, offering unparalleled opportunity to study with five of China’s top Masters. Another symposium is planned for 2014.
