Back to the Basics
By Barbara (Bobbie) Purvis

It’s been almost four weeks now that I’ve been away from the rhythm of regular workouts. I can literally FEEL the difference. I’ve missed being loose and relaxed through the day from Tai Chi practice. And although I did what I could along the way, nothing (and I repeat nothing) beats consistency when it comes to any kind of practice that requires movement, focus, relaxation, and breathing.
Now I’m tighter — even mentally so — but especially my tendons, ligaments and muscles. I feel like I’ve aged about 10 years in the past four weeks with the limited kind of sporadic practice I was able to do. My back hurts a little when I stand up from a period of sitting; my knees are reminding me that they are out of sorts, and will be for a while until the supporting connective tissue around them is strong again. I’m happy to have been able to do the minimal amount that I did, but I’m HAPPIER to finally be getting back to the regular practice that helps keep me calm and contented, relaxed, flexible, centered, and firmly rooted in my life.
