According to an article written by Margaret Rock (June 13, 2013) Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is on the rise in children. She cites a report by the Kaiser Family Foundation that links the increase to the rise of mobile devices. While researchers stop short from saying there is a direct correlation, they instead say there are strong parallels between the upswing in diagnoses and an increase of screen time. But a study reported by the journal “Pediatrics” says children and young adults who overdo TV and video games are nearly twice as likely to suffer from a variety of attention span disorders. Part of the problem is that the brains of children adapt to the action-packed nature of electronic media, so when they’re forced to work in the slower pace of [real] life, they often struggle to pay attention because it is less stimulating and rewarding.
