Following the old adage “Use it or lose it” a study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease found that participants showed significant increases in brain volume when they participated in Tai Chi that was comparable to those who had more social interaction.
A traditional Tai Chi practice engages the mind that keeps neural connections intact. Results from this study would suggest that practicing Tai Chi with a group of like-minded individuals would greatly help maintain cognitive function.
There are plenty of social groups for individuals interested in pursuing Tai Chi. For those in the Columbia area, you will not find a better group of people and Tai Chi instruction anywhere but the Columbia Tai Chi Center. Free introductory classes are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Click here to sign up!
